TOSTÉ · Premium food brand and online shop

A first harvest with a story to tell, and a checkout that stays out of its way.

Bottles of TOSTÉ single origin sesame oil

The brief

Founded by Jin Kim and Jessica Min, TOSTÉ pairs generations of Korean sesame expertise with Australian-grown seed. A product like that is bought on provenance, so the site has to carry a long story about growers, harvest and origin, and still sell a $54 gift pack without the story getting in the way.

What we built

The story runs across its own sections rather than being compressed onto a product page: the founders, the seed-to-bottle argument, and Australian Sesame, which is about where the crop goes next rather than about the bottles. The First Harvest and Heritage ranges are presented as two ranges, because they are two propositions.

Trade sits alongside retail with its own enquiry path for retailers, chefs, food service and distributors, so a buyer opening a wholesale conversation is never sent through a consumer checkout to do it.

The engineering

Next.js front end, Sanity for the content, Shopify for products, cart and checkout. The split is the point: the editorial side of the brand is edited as content rather than as product descriptions, and the commerce side stays on the platform that is good at payments and fulfilment. Because the storefront is not a Shopify theme, the intro sequence, the type and the photography are designed rather than configured.
